Salto has expanded its innovative XS4 range with the launch of the XS4 Double Reader—a wire-free smart locking solution designed to monitor and control access on both sides of a door.

Combining two integrated readers within one electronic lock, the new solution enables organisations to manage entry and exit through a single access point. This delivers greater visibility, improved security and more effective control of movement throughout a building.

Intelligent access control in both directions

Traditional electronic locks commonly control entry while allowing unrestricted exit. However, many buildings and secure environments need to identify and authorise users travelling in both directions.

The Salto XS4 Double Reader addresses this requirement by placing a reader on each side of the door. Users must present an approved credential when entering and leaving, creating a complete audit trail of movement through the access point.

For example, if someone enters a controlled area using their credential, the system can require that credential to register an exit before it can be used to enter again. This helps ensure that each credential is being used by the authorised individual.

Occupancy and roll-call information

By recording both entry and exit activity, the XS4 Double Reader can help organisations understand who is present within a defined area.

The system records the date and time of each access event and can support real-time presence lists, occupancy restrictions and roll-call reporting. This can provide valuable information during an evacuation, security incident or safety audit.
